GRIDFLEX · CALCULATOR NOTES

How the scenario calculator works

A transparent walkthrough of the inputs, arithmetic, and scenario ranges behind GridFlex’s commercial facility calculator.

01 / Inputs

Five assumptions shape each estimate.

Each default, allowed range, unit, and description comes from the live calculator configuration.

Annual electricity spend

Total U.S. facility electricity cost you want to model, in USD per year.

Default
$360,000
Allowed range
$10,000–$20,000,000

USD/year

Controllable energy-cost share

Your estimate of the annual spend linked to load the selected asset can influence.

Default
25%
Allowed range
0%–100%

Percent of annual electricity spend (%)

Monthly peak demand

The facility’s highest monthly demand, measured in kW.

Default
1,000 kW
Allowed range
10 kW–10,000 kW

kW

Demand charge

The tariff demand charge used for this scenario, in USD per kW-month.

Default
$18/kW-month
Allowed range
$0/kW-month–$100/kW-month

USD/kW-month

Peak-reduction assumption

The reduction you want to test across the flexible-cost and demand-charge components.

Default
10%
Allowed range
0%–50%

%

Asset context is a label

Each slot can be labeled Battery storage, EV fleet, or Building systems. The selected context describes what you are considering; it does not change the formula or assumptions.

02 / Formulas

The same arithmetic is used in each scenario.

Percentage inputs become fractions by dividing by 100. The demand charge is monthly, so the formula annualizes it over 12 months.

Illustrative annual value

Energy-cost component = annual electricity spend × (controllable share ÷ 100) × (peak reduction ÷ 100)
Peak-demand component = monthly peak demand × demand charge × 12 × (peak reduction ÷ 100)
Illustrative annual value = energy-cost component + peak-demand component

Illustrative scenario peak reduction

monthly peak demand × (peak reduction ÷ 100)Dividing each percentage by 100 converts it to a fraction.

03 / Scenario range

Low and High adjust two inputs, then recalculate.

Low and High each adjust controllable share and peak reduction, then use the same formulas above. Annual spend, monthly peak demand, and demand charge stay fixed.

Low

Subtract 5 percentage points from controllable energy-cost share and 3 percentage points from peak reduction.

High

Add 5 percentage points to controllable energy-cost share and 3 percentage points to peak reduction.

Each adjusted value is clamped to that input’s configured range. Controllable energy-cost share stays between 0% and 100%; peak reduction stays between 0% and 50%.

04 / Worked example

Illustrative default scenarios, calculated from the live model.

Every amount and kW output below is an illustrative scenario result calculated from the live model’s current defaults: $360,000 annual spend, 25% controllable share, 1,000 kW monthly peak, an $18/kW-month demand charge, and 10% peak reduction. These are not measured site outcomes.

05 / Limits

Use these outputs as scenarios, not promises.

Every amount and kW output on this page is an illustrative scenario only. They are not realized savings, a forecast, guaranteed savings, committed revenue, or a peak-reduction promise; the annual value is not net ROI. The model does not subtract asset or operating costs. Outcomes depend on site conditions, tariff structure, asset performance, operating schedules, program eligibility and terms, and market conditions.
